Rise To It Masquerade Bash

Friday August 12, 2011, 8:00PM | Joseph Richard Nightclub, Vancouver, BC

This year, Beneath One Sky is trying something new. As a project under SAV&D, we will be co-hosting a masquerade event with Joseph Richard Nightclub!

Rise To It will not only raise funds for the 2012 Great Adventure Tour (GAT) Team, but also to help fund our winter Backpack Runs. The GAT Team consists of youth volunteering their time and talents overseas to build homes for the poor. Our Backpack Runs focus on poverty on a local scale; the money will used to buy basic supplies for those living in the streets of Vancouver.

For updates, you can follow Rise To It’s Facebook Event Page.

“Rise To It” comes from one of Marione’s favourite quotes, “Your life is an occasion, rise to it” from Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium (no copyright infringement intended), a movie that depicts a place where anything can happen. And that is the point of life, is that anything can happen, no matter how poor you are, or your race, your sexuality, as long as you believe in a better tomorrow, as long as you rise to life’s every occasion, you will find happiness. It’s hard to rise to the occasion when you live in a society that demands the physical and economic best out of you over your moral best. From going on the mission trips to the Philippines with Holy Cross Regional High School, many of the participants realized that there are people in worse situations and living conditions than they were and that they should appreciate everything that they have, everything that they were given. With this in mind, Beneath One Sky formed. Therefore, this event would also celebrate the formation of Beneath One Sky, where we ‘rise up’ against poverty, keeping in mind that life is an occasion, rise to it.
